Artificial Intelligence, Innovation and Society

The event is the final event of the European Project AIIS , financed by EACEA.

The University of Salamanca held on 28th of September, at the Fonseca School, the first European Medical Education Conference on Artificial Intelligence, Innovation and Society, with which the European AIIS Project is coming to an end.
AIIS (Erasmus+, KA2), funded by EACEA with a total of 991,353 euros, has aimed to improve soft skills (skills related to active listening, teamwork, creativity, resilience or learning capacity, among others) and digital skills (AI) of medical students.
The University of Salamanca has led this innovative project, coordinated by Pedro Luis Sánchez (professor of Medicine) and Emiliana Pizarro Lucas (director of the Professional Insertion, Internship and Employment Service -SIPPE-). The consortium was made up of five universities, three companies and a research center, from five European countries: Spain, Finland, Greece, the Netherlands and Belgium: University of Salamanca, University of Mons, University of Turku, University of Thessaly, University of Turku of Applied Sciences, Markeut Skills S.L., Xebia, SciFY and the Center for Biomedical Research Network (CIBER).
This 1st European Medical Education Conference on Artificial Intelligence, Innovation and Society was aimed at the general public, students and professionals, organizations and institutions interested in the convergence of medical education, artificial intelligence, innovation and society.
Project Results
During the day, the AIIS partners first presented the results of the project. Next, there was a poster exhibition and a demonstration in which participants were able to try out the virtual reality training environment designed by the consortium and which students from the five European universities tested during the last year. The day continued with a panel discussion in which collaboration between companies and universities for the progress of the medical curriculum was debated. Finally, experts in AI and professional skills analyzed the role of skills for employability and artificial intelligence in the medical sector.
